Historical Invitation.

Where the Wild Things Are

Introduction

A historical invitation for Maurice Sendak’s book reading event for the release of Where the Wild Things Are. This particular project was inspired by my visit to the Columbus Museum of Art and their exhibition Wild Things Are Happening. I have personally struggled to find my creative voice, as many artists do, and Sendak was one of them. As he honed his craft and explored styles, Sendak discovered his voice. Through this invitation, I wanted to study Sendak’s storytelling through his illustrations. I hand bound a small book, inspired by his Nutshell Library, and told the story of his characters gathering together to celebrate one his most well known works. I hand inked and painted each spread with watercolors.
