Relief and Etching Prints

An Instant.

An Instant explores the feeling of meeting someone for the first who changes the course of your life - if you hadn’t met them, where would you be now?

Conjoined.

In this woodblock print, I wanted to visually represent my own experiences as a fraternal twin. Conjoined symbolizes twin connection, misconceptions, and individuality.

Say Cheese!

Continuing the theme of twins, Say Cheese captures a childhood memory of me and my brother at Chuck E. Cheese.

…You Left.

Prompted by the sentence “When I knew it was over”, this woodblock print on rice paper tells the story of a dog sadly watching their favorite person leave for college. The days of playing were gone. I knew it was over when… you left.

Ode to Abby.

Ode to Abby is a memorial piece of my childhood boxer, who was the best dog a girl could ask for.

Souvenir.

Souvenir was inspired by a painting I was gifted by mom when she traveled to the Bahamas. As time passes, I find new meanings from this monotype. I see commentary on the endangerment and protection of sea turtles in high tourist areas. These beautiful creatures constantly struggle against the development of tourism.

Snooze.

My trusty alarm clock from college, who woke me up everyday for classes, deserves to snooze too.

Nostalgia.

Have you ever gone about your day, nothing extraordinary, then suddenly you are pulled back into a memory? Nostalgia is just that. An ache for a memory that has long passed.

Homesick.

Sometimes a memory is so potent all you can do is watch time pass in front of you.

Tomboy.

As a girl who grew up with three brothers, I fell into being a tomboy and rejected anything “girly”. I find myself now learning for the first time how to do my makeup and paint my nails. Rediscovering the joys of girlhood that I fought for so long.

Ladies of the Court.

An observational drawing of my friends in our college house doing homework one night. Thank you Allie, Caroline, Julia, and Laura for letting me draw this moment.

The Elk.

I designed my own tarot card, The Elk, to remind me I have strength for the journey ahead. Everyone is on their own unique path and there is joy in knowing the possibilities to come. The tarot card represents reflection, healing, and openness.

Kou (Cordia Subcordata).

A couple years ago I traveled outside of the U.S. for the first time and had the opportunity to tour the Mayan ruins in Mexico. There were kou trees and they had these beautiful, bright orange flowers. I had never seen anything like it before. So, I felt the need to etch this beautiful tree from a photo I took while in Mexico.
